Training Level I

This training supports participants with developing the skills and presence to facilitate the Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality Experience. Inspired by the 400 Years of Inequality project and its powerful timeline, this training will explore research and practices at the intersection of mindfulness, intergenerational trauma & healing, and contemplative education. This training will provide participants with the necessary knowledge they need to guide their communities through mindful dialogue on our past for the purpose of generating healing and restoration.

This training harnesses the power of the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to U.S. in 1619. Participants will learn how facilitate a contemplative learning experience that holds the complexity of diverse perspectives and walks community members through history in order to process our collective past for our present healing. By combining contemplative practices with the exploration of the timeline, participants will learn how to re-imagine how we can both transcend implicit bias and develop a more compassionate society.

Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of foundational research, core practices, access to online community, physical timeline printing instructions, digital access to timeline, and tools for facilitating the timeline virtually.

Training Level II

This LEVEL II training expands upon several of the concepts explored in Level I. With a particular focus on deepening the ability to hold space for difficult conversations in relation to structural inequality, participants will get hands on opportunities to engage in interactive dialogue to explore the legacy of 400-plus years of inequality. Drawing on the power of the 400 Years of Inequality, participants will develop a deeper awareness of the historical forces that have created what scholars call an “ecology of inequality.”

Through short lectures and contemplative practices, participants will learn how to leverage contemplative science and prosociality. This is a great opportunity to take what you learned in Level I and fine-tune your facilitation skills for working with the timeline itself but, more broadly, cultivating the presence to hold space for others in exploring some of the contentious issues of our times.

This training continues to support participants with developing the skills and presence to facilitate the Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality Experience. Inspired by the 400 Years of Inequality project and its powerful timeline, this training underscores research and practices at the intersection of mindfulness, intergenerational trauma & healing, and contemplative education. Through building community with others from across a variety of fields, this is an opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues as well. Fundamentally, this training harnesses the power of the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to U.S. in 1619. Former participants in our LEVEL I training are welcomed to join us.
